A sanitary sewer overflow has occurred along the 100 block of North Adams Street in the City of Oconto Falls.
The overflow along North Adams Street occurred from approximately 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 25, 2018 until 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 26, 2018. Total estimated volume spilled is 50,000 – 75,000 gallons.
The overflow resulted from the ongoing construction project currently being done by the Jossart Bros. Construction Company. A temporary connection was made between two sewer mains for the night on June 25th after work was done for the day. It is estimated that around 7:00 p.m., the temporary connection failed and allowed sewage to leak from the sewer main pipe and into the existing trench. This sewage then mixed with the ground water that was being pumped out of the trench and into the storm sewer system, which then enters the Oconto River below the Eagle Creek Dam.
Oconto Falls Water & Light and Jossart Bros. Construction Company responded to the incident and stopped the overflow, and are taking all necessary steps to limit any public health hazard or potentially harmful effects on the environment.
