Professional actors from the National Theatre for Children (NTC) visited Oconto Falls Elementary School on February 14, 2019 to perform “Kilowatt Kitchen,” an educational play about electrical safety and conservation. The program focused on:
-
How to measure energy and electricity
-
What renewable resources are
-
How energy and electricity are wasted
-
How to conserve energy and electricity
In addition, teachers received digital games and activities reinforcing important concepts and lessons taught during the 25-minute play. All program costs were covered by a sponsorship from Oconto Falls Municipal Utilities and WPPI Energy, making this a cost-free resource for the schools.
“As a locally owned and community focused utility, Oconto Falls Municipal Utilitiesis a proud sponsor of NTC productions. These productions teach students about important energy concepts in a way that really stays with them,” said Greg Kuhn, Utility General Manager.
The live program revolved around Lorraine Quiche, who is about to achieve her dream of opening her own restaurant. Unfortunately, it turns out her head chef has been wasting energy, causing the power to go out. With the help of student volunteers, as well as colorful characters like Horace Flyman and Adam Grizzly, the group learned about energy and electricity and how to restore the power before opening night.
Performances took place at the Oconto Falls Elementary School on February 14th at 9:30 and 10:15am with about 530 students and 40 teachers present.
